Every year contains several important days which hold more value than others. It may have a festival, a historical or a national significance. Often we are uninformed of those special days until we come to know about them. In this fast-paced life, we need to be well informed about everything.
August is the eight-month of an annual year which consists of thirty-one days and is named after Augustus Ceasar. 

There are numerous events in August. Let's have a look -

1st August - National Mountain Climbing Day and Yorkshire Day :

To honour Bobby Mathews and Josh Madigan, the two climbed the 46 High Peaks of New York State's Adirondack Mountains in 2015, this day is dedicated to them.
Also, this day is observed as Yorkshire Day, to celebrated U.K's largest country.

3rd August - Raksha Bandhan ( Rakhi ) Day :

One of the most popular occasions of India to celebrated the love of a brother for his sister. On this day, sisters tie rakhi on the wrists of their brothers to protect them from evil influence and in return brothers took the vow of protecting them from any harm.

The ancient history of this festival is intense. As per Hindu mythology, the great Indian epic, Mahabharata, Draupadi, wife of Pandavas, had torn the corner of her sari to prevent Lord Krishna's wrists from bleeding. This, a bond of brother and sister developed them and he promised to protect her throughout life.

4th August - U.S. Coast Guard Day :

To recognise and acknowledge the achievement of Revenue Marine this day is dedicated, since 1790, after it was started by Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton.

6th August - Hiroshima Day :

Hiroshima Day is observed on the 6th of August in the memories of those people who lost their lives in the year 1945 on this unfortunate day.

7th August - National Handloom Day :

The Union Government of India has declared 7th August as National Handloom Day in July 2015, with the objective to develop awareness about the importance of handloom industry. Interestingly. The day was chosen to honour the Swadeshi Movement which was embarked on this day in 1905 in Calcutta Town Hall to protest against the petition of Bengal by the British government. The movement had intended for rejuvenating domestic products and production process. 

8th August - Quit India Movement Day :

In the year 1942 on this day, the Bombay session of All India Congress Committee by Mahatma Gandhi during World War II enacted a resolution of quit India Movement. The resolution announced that the immediate ending of British rule in India was an urgent necessity for the sake of India. The movement was launched after the failure of the Cripps Mission. 

9th AugustNagasaki Day

This day is dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the nuclear attack by American in the year 1945.

9th August - World's Indigenous Peoples Day

To raise awareness regarding the preservation and promotion of human rights made for indigenous people, this day is celebrated.

12th August - International Youth Day

One of the most significant day is International Youth Day, which is celebrated around the world to focus on the development and protection of youth in the society, for the first time it was declared by the United Nations General Assembly.

13th August - International Lefthanders Day :

A day to cheer those who use their left hand as the dominant one. This year it will be 44th International Lefthanders Day.

14th August - Pakistan Independence Day :

As a result of the separation of one nation in 1947, thus, Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day, a day before the Independence Day of India.

15th August - Independence Day of India : 

The most special day of every Indian is Independence Day. It is celebrated on the 15th of August. In the year 1947, the British rule comes to the end on this day. It marks as the new beginning of a new era free from British colonialism. This year it will be 73rd Independence Day for India.

16th August - Bennington Battle Day :

To honour the Battle of Bennington which took place in the year 1777,  this day is celebrated.

17th August - Indonesian Independence Day:

Indonesia got independence from Dutch colonialism in the year 1945 on this day.

19th AugustWorld Photography Day :

This day is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of photography.

19th August - World Humanitarian Day

To pay tribute to the aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian services, this day is observed.

20th August - World Mosquito Day :

To commemorate the British doctor, Sir Ronald Ross's discovery in the year 1897 that " female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans", this day is observed.

20th August - Sadbhavna Diwas :

To commemorate the memory of our late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, this day is observed. Sadbhavna means goodwill and bonafide.

20th August - Indian Akshay Urja Day :

This day is celebrated since 2004, to raise awareness about the development of renewable energy in India, to commemorate the birthday of former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi.

23rd August - International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and it's Abolition :

The day reminds us of the tragedy of the transatlantic slave trade. It gives a glimpse of historic causes and the consequences of the slave trade.

23rd August - European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism :

A remembrance day for victims of totalitarian regimes mainly Communism, Fascism, Nazism etc. It is also known as Black Ribbon Day.

26th August - Women's Equality Day :

The day is celebrated to the promotion of equality and the rights that are given to the women of the U.S, including the right to vote and many more.

29th August - National Sports Day :

This day is celebrated to the memory of Indian Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, who was born in Prayagraj in the year 1905 on this day. His contributions to Indian sports are numerous.

30th August - Small Industry Day :

To praise the contribution of small industries in producing weapons and vehicles for the U.S military.

31st August - Hari Merdeka :

The official independence day of Malaysia. This decision defines under the article 160 of the Constitution of Malaysia.
