For not being our native language most of us are afraid to write in English. Though some simple steps can help to overcome the phobia and improve our writing style. Few tips are here to Improve your English Writing Skills.
EXPAND YOUR VOCABULARY
To express yourself clearly you need a good stock of Vocabulary and being able to use them correctly. When learning a new word, try to learn all the forms of that word and prepositions that are usually used with it. You can easily expand your vocabulary.
Example: the word 'afraid', make a note of; afraid of, to be afraid of, afraid to.
Thesaurus can also be very useful, it will help to find synonyms to improve your English Writing Skills.

CHECK YOUR SPELLING
At first check your spelling. Poor spelling can spoil an interesting piece. Learn the ground level rules of spelling to spell correctly which will help to improve your English Writing Skills.
But some are exceptional to the rule. It is therefore important that certain spelling is learned.
BRUSH UP YOUR BASIC GRAMMAR
To improve your English Writing Skills, Grammar is very important. Few guidelines are here :
i. Each sentence must contain at least one finite verb.
ii. The finite verb must be linked to the noun or pronoun which is the subject of the sentence.
iii. The present participle can be connected to the verb 'to be' to make a finite verb.
iv. Nouns can be replaced by pronouns.
v. Identifying nouns, using capital letters, proper use of Articles, understanding the proper form of verbs.
vi. Use strong verbs. Like, 'He gave assistance to my friend' instead of that we can write, 'He assisted my friend'.
POLISHING UP PUNCTUATION
Knowing when to stop, using commas, semi-colon, the colon, the dash, question mark, exclamation mark are all very important when you writing something. All those help you to improve your English Writing Skills.
Dictionary will help you to improve your English Writing Skills, You can look up words to clarify their meaning and to learn antonyms and synonyms so as not to repeat words or phrases. It will
Frequently use of a dictionary will help to correct spelling. A dictionary not only tells you how to spell a word, but it also tells you what part of speech the word is. Sometimes the word appears more than once as it has a different meaning and can be used as a different part of speech, like,
Fast - (Verb) - Remain unfed, Starve.
(Noun) - The act of going without food, Starvation.
(Adjective) - Swift, Seasoned, Depraved.
(Adverb) - Quickly, Speedily.

There are five basic sentence structures in the English dialect -
- Subject-Verb. (i.e: John studies.)
- Subject - Verb - Object. (i.e: Bill kicks the ball.)
- Subject - Verb - Adjective. (i.e: Maria loos pretty.)
- Subject-Verb - Adverb. (i.e: These flowers are everywhere.)
- Subject-Verb - Noun. (i.e: My father was a chemist.)
- John, my brother, studies at home.
- Bill kicks the red ball hard.
- Maria looks pretty tonight.
- These small white flowers are everywhere during the summer.
- My father, who passed away many years ago, was a well-known chemist.
A useful way to improve your English writing skills is to start your paragraph with a 'Topic Sentence': a sentence that explains what you are going to write about. Continue with 'Supporting sentence': sentences that provide more information about the topic. Finish with a 'Conclusion': it is generally a summary of the ideas developed in the body of the paragraph.
The more you read the better you understand the language. This will give you a broader understanding of grammar, sentence structure and jargon (special words or expressions used by a professional or group that one difficult for others to understand). Books, Journals, Newspapers, Magazines all are helpful to enlighten the knowledge and will help you to improve your English Writing Skill.
To improve your English Writing Skills, do not use Constructions while constructing your sentences, words like Don't, Can't, Shouldn't, Couldn't, etc, instead of that use expansions form of them like Do not, Can not, Should not, Could not etc.
Unnecessary use of words like Very, Really, A lot makes your sentences clumsy, instead of that use better vocabulary. Definitely, it will not change the meaning but will make it sound interesting. Like,
He is very tired. - He is exhausted.
The movie was really controversial. - The movie was controversial.
A lot of students failed. - Many students failed.
Make less use of 'There is' and 'There are'. Construct the sentences in another way like,
There is no place like home. - No place is like home.
There is an exhibition at the school. - The school is holding an exhibition.
There are many leaves on the ground. - Many leaves are on the ground.
There are many problems in her class. - Her class is facing problems.
Notice that we do not lose any meaning when we rewrite sentences without using those words.
TRY TO GET SOMEONE TO READ WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN
A teacher, a native speaker, a friend, a colleague whoever masters the language can help you understand and correct whatever mistakes you may have made in grammar or spelling or constructing. This will help you to improve your English Writing Skill.
Writing in English is not really something you will achieve immediately. But with practice, hard work and efficiency you could improve your English Writing Skills. Start writing simple sentences and then get the challenges to write more elaborately. Just give it a try.
