Education is called the backbone and the basis of all progress and prosperity of a Nation. All the civilized and developed countries are very rich in education. A literate man helps in the economic development of his nation, whereas an illiterate man is a burden to the nation. Illiteracy is a curse to a nation

The chief cause of Indian's ruin has been the dominating of the entire education system, by the dint of royal authority, among a handful of people. If we desire to make our nation progressed and rise to the highest grade we should spread education among the abundances.

The Mass Education help the common people to equip themselves for life, which brings out courage, generosity and strength to self-reliant.

Swami Vivekananda's view on Mass Education 

The Patriot Saint of India, the social reformer and religious leader, an educationalist Swami Vivekananda said, "Our great national sin is the neglect of the masses and that is the cause of our downfall". He unfolded one remarkable idea about education after seeing the condition of Indians, is to teach and raise the masses because he believed that the growth of a county entirely depends upon the hands of abundances, so education among the masses is a must.

To eradicate illiteracy from the society is a main objective of Mass Education. What is Masses definition? - The word ‘Mass' stands for ‘on a big scale'. So when we educate people on a vast scale it’s said to be 'Mass Education'. This aims to impart knowledge of letters, a view of enabling them to read and write, and with the proficiency of arithmetic, which increases one's awareness on a range of issues – from health care to fundamental rights, to appropriate social behaviour and in the process of being a sensible republic.

The importance of mass education in our country is very high. Most of our people are illiterate. Being uneducated they can’t obtain the fundamental rights of a citizen. They don’t have the knowledge of proper health and livelihood. They suffer from many fatal diseases due to lack of awareness. Social problems like population explosion, dowry, childbearing, gender discrimination, superstition etc always grasp them. Thus, the importance of mass education is vital in our country. If our society obtains primary knowledge of the smooth way of living, then they will be able to get a better state of life. An educated person is an asset to the nation. They help in the development movements of the nation. Thus mass education is very necessary for our country.

To make the Mass Education programs successful everyone should come forward to implement the assignment. Everyone should work in a joint collaboration. Necessary education centers should be set up. Education Program should be run-up in existing schools, mosques, clubs, night schools and other suitable places. Education supplements like free books, stationery, bags and other necessary educational equipment need to be distributed among marginalized people. Special emphasis should be given on girls and women education. The female folk need to be motivated more and more because they are our large part. They must be brought under the free education programs so that they can empower their families.

Mass Education is a fundamental step to eliminate illiteracy from the society. It is the responsibility of the Society to increase the education level of every citizen for its own interest. All the sectors and the individuals should come forward to make it happen. If this can be done our nation will get rid of the curse of illiteracy and ignorance.
